Exhibition Development Seminar: Graphic Design

As designers and artists, our visual proposal wishes to extend the narrative and structural capacity of both maps and mapping. The design components will simultaneously direct visitors through the experience, document the project, and be an active expression and resource for the exhibition. The graphics team looks to push some of the boundaries by considering the topics/process of mapping, as part of the working process. The graphics team will contribute an innovative and contemporary map that extends the rich history of maps and mapping exhibited by the Walters Art Museum. By incorporating mapping techniques, as well as showcasing the working process, the graphics team acknowledges the opportunity to engage the broad and diverse audience, introducing unexpected ways of thinking about the process and interpretation of mapping. The graphic design team looks to establish a consistent visual language through exhibition elements, website graphics, educational material, promotional components, and way finding applications. The all-encompassing goal will visually encourage inter-activity, creativity, cultural response, and favor public accessibility.
