Phase 1, Summer 2011
Phase 1 of a two-summer renovation will take place at Studio Center beginning this summer. Work on the building will include installation of replacement windows, cutting slots in the East/West façade for new windows, landscaped entrance, and plaza. The overall timeframe for the project is May 16 through August 17. We awarded the contract to Whiting-Turner, a top-tier construction company. Whiting-Turner has worked with MICA on the Brown Center, Mt. Royal Station, and most recently the Gateway. Whiting-Turner takes security and safety very seriously, and has a number of protocols in place to ensure safe access and use of a facility under renovation.
Project Schedule
MAY 16-JUNE 17
Work is scheduled for the lower level, windows, storefront, and landscape/hardscape.
JUNE 17-AUGUST 17
Work is scheduled for the windows on floors 4 and 5, storefront entrance, landscape/hardscape on the street level, and some minimal work in the basement.
The intention of the work schedule is to perform the noisiest, most disruptive work prior to June 17 and after August 3.
Work will take place Monday through Saturday, from 5:00 a.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m. This schedule was designed to allow current and low residency graduate students to work with the least disruption during the times you told us were most important.
Students will be able to work with minimal disruption from 3pm till 5am.
A daily schedule will be distributed for all work during the period May 17-August 17.

Security
24-hour access and 24-hour guard service will still be available. Please do not prop open any door, and swipe-card access will remain in effect throughout the summer. Security access will be enforced. Please keep your photo ID available, and check-in/out each time you enter/leave the building. As always, and not just during renovation work, keep valuables (such as computers, phones, wallets, handbags, iPods, iPads, watches, cash, and jewelry) secured, locked, or on your person. Never leave your valuables unattended.
Workers will wear identification badges while on site, and will use the freight elevator during construction.
Parking
The east parking lot will be gated and open for student parking as well as the North Avenue parking lot. Scaffolding in the parking lots will only take up a few parking spots.
