MICA's national reputation in drawing builds on its commitment to achieving the highest level of drawing proficiency in all students, and the department offers a dynamic and flexible BFA curriculum that allows a robust community of artists to explore the expressive possibilities of drawing through a wide array of innovative courses taught by a nationally renowned faculty.

  1. Open Studio Tour for Drawing, GFA, Painting, and Printmaking

    Visit the Studio Center (2nd and 3rd floor) and Dolphin Building (3rd floor) on Monday, Oct. 12 from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. for a junior/senior drawing, general fine arts, painting and printmaking Open Studio Tour.

    MICA Preserves Statues in Main Building Court

    MICA in June continued its conservation program for the 19 sculptures on the first and second levels of the Main Building court, a focal point of the campus, by treating a second plaster cast made from the Elgin marbles. The project—an interdepartmental collaboration among students, faculty and staff in the art history, exhibitions, sculpture, drawing and photography departments—began in November 2008 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of this historic building.

    American Artist: Drawing Magazine Profiles MICA's Drawing Program

    MICA's drawing program is profiled in the spring issue of American Artist: Drawing magazine, available on newsstands through Aug. 10. The article, "A Return to Drawing by Hand at MICA," features artwork by faculty Mark Karnes, Abby Sangiamo, Rex Stevens and Howie Weiss, as well as alumni/students Kent Miller '09, Jennifer Brakefield '09 and Haniya Ghazelah '10.
