Teaching (MAT)

The MAT provides outstanding preparation for teaching of art. The curriculum integrates hands-on teaching experience with coursework in practice, current theory, and research. Graduates of MICA’s MAT program are highly competent teachers of art who are skilled practicing artists. The two-year residency leads to certification to teach art in grades K-12.

    These interactive tours will be led by BFA/MAT students who will engage you in activities centered around movement and thematic ideas in Seelig's work.

    MAT Graduating Class' Super-Mega-Ultra-Mondo-TINY Exhibition, Opening Dec. 11

    The M.A. in Teaching program is proudly showcasing its upcoming graduating class in an exhibition of small works in the small gallery space outside of Fox Building, room 121. See our graduate students as practicing artist-teachers, sharing (tiny) work from their personal studios. Opening reception on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 5-7 p.m. Work on view through the end of the semester.

    Really great clothing finds will be available for purchase in Cohen Plaza on Wednesday, Oct. 14 and Thursday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

  1. Best Graduate Schools Ranking

    U.S. News & World Report Ranks MICA's Master of Fine Arts Programs Among Top Four in Nation

    Maryland Institute College of Art's (MICA) Master of Fine Arts programs were ranked among the top four in the nation, with those of Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Yale University, and School of the Art Institute of Chicago, by U.S. News & World Report, in its “Best Graduate Schools” edition released on March 26, 2008. This ranking was based “solely on the results of a peer assessment survey of art school deans [asked to] rate the academic quality of programs,” at 220 colleges and universities, according to the magazine.
