Art Education (Summer Low-Residency MA)

The program is structured to allow students grow as artists, teachers, reflective practitioners, and leaders in the field. Two six-week summer residencies, online course work during fall and spring semesters, and winter seminars on MICA’s campus comprise the low-residency program’s schedule.

  1. Vanessa Lopez '07 published in Art Education

    Vanessa Lopez, a 2007 graduate of the MA in Art Education program, had her article, "The Hyphen Goes Where? Four Stories of the Dual-Culture Experience in the Art Classroom," published in the September 2009 issue of Art Education, a peer-juried journal of the National Art Education Association.

  2. Erica Hansen '08 Awarded Patterson Residency at Baltimore's Creative Alliance

    Erica Hansen, a 2008 graduate of the MA in Art Education program, was awarded a three-year Patterson Residency at the Creative Alliance at The Patterson in Baltimore. The residency is granted to exceptional artists who have participated in a national competition for the residency live/work space.

  4. MA in Art Education Alumni Publish Research Articles in Art Education Journal

    MA in Art Education Alumni James Hesser '07 and Rebecca Levine '07 have published research articles in the July issue of Art Education, the journal of the National Art Education Association. Topics in the bi-monthly publication deal with issues of professional interest to art educators and are suited to a diverse audience.

    MICA Presents MA in Art Education Thesis Exhibition July 29-31

    MICA presents the results of eight art educators' year-long visual investigations in the MA in Art Education Thesis Exhibition Wednesday, July 29-Friday, July 31. The art in this exhibition parallels the academic research process the MA student/art educator explores during the low-residency program. Artwork will be on view in Pinkard Gallery of Bunting Center, 1401 W. Mount Royal Ave. A public reception with the artists takes place Friday, July 31, 5-7 p.m.

  1. Best Graduate Schools Ranking

    U.S. News & World Report Ranks MICA's Master of Fine Arts Programs Among Top Four in Nation

    Maryland Institute College of Art's (MICA) Master of Fine Arts programs were ranked among the top four in the nation, with those of Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Yale University, and School of the Art Institute of Chicago, by U.S. News & World Report, in its “Best Graduate Schools” edition released on March 26, 2008. This ranking was based “solely on the results of a peer assessment survey of art school deans [asked to] rate the academic quality of programs,” at 220 colleges and universities, according to the magazine.
