A working day is as long or as short as a resident desires, but the famous Breton light extends beyond 10 pm during the spring and summer, and most artists are eager to make the most of it.
Shared studio space is available.
Residents will be housed in luxury self-catering apartments in Val Rive in Léhon. Each apartment has two bedrooms, a bath, a kitchen, and large living room and will house two residents (or resident couples).
The amenities available in Léhon include a bakery, restaurant, tavern, heated outdoor swimming pool, and tennis courts. The city of Dinan, within walking distance, has large supermarkets, bakeries, many restaurants, hotels, laundries, hardware stores, and other businesses, including a large outdoor weekly market. ATMs are readily available. Some US banks and US credit card companies tack on a foreign service fee; others do not.
The apartment building is equipped with free wireless Internet access. Residents are responsible for their own telephone needs; however, a telephone is available in the building for emergency use only.
Residents should bring or ship the supplies they will need. International shipping can be slow and complicated, and residents should allow a minimum of eight weeks for delivery. It is advisable to contact the airline/transport company for specific regulations before packing or shipping art supplies or materials. A limited variety of supplies can be purchased in Dinan; a larger selection is available in Rennes, which is 45 minutes away by car (the trip is longer by the local bus).
High-speed trains run from Paris to Rennes. From Rennes, one can take a local train to Dol-de-Bretagne and switch for the train to Dinan. Occasionally, a high-speed train goes from Paris to Dol-de-Bretagne. The directors will pick up residents in Dinan. Paris is a four-hour car drive from Léhon.
France has an excellent car lease plan for tourists visiting Europe for at least 17 days. Leasing arrangements under this plan must be made from the United States; the residency directors will provide detailed information to successful applicants. MICA has a relationship with the vendors, who have provided discounts to our residents in the past. Leased cars can be picked up at many locations in France, including Charles de Gaulle airport. The directors will transport residents who do not lease a car to a supermarket once a week.
