Domestic Exchange Programs

MICA participates in the exchange program of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD), which provides MICA students the opportunity to study for one semester at one of the participating art and design institutions throughout the United States and Canada.

AICAD also administers the prestigious New York Studio Residency Program, for which MICA can nominate just five students per year. 

New York Studio Residency Program (New York, NY)

Semester Dates Fall: September to December; Spring: January to May
Application Deadlines September 15 (for spring), March 1 (for fall)
Subjects Digital Arts and Video, Fiber Arts, New and Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, and Related Visual Arts.
Program Tracks Students choose either an independent studio track (10 credits independent studio, 3 credits Critical Seminar, and 3 credits Contemporary Art Seminar) or an internship track (13 credits internship and 3 credits Contemporary Art Seminar).
Housing Not available through the program. Students are responsible for finding and securing housing in NYC.

AICAD (Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design)

Institutions A list of AICAD member institutions with links is available on AICAD’s website. Most AICAD member institutions participate in the exchange program. NOTE: Member institutions that do not participate in the exchange program are Art Center College of Design, California Institute of the Arts, Cornish College of the Arts, Parsons the New School for Design, Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, Pratt Institute, and School of Visual Arts.
Semester Dates Available in fall and spring. Semester dates vary by institution, but most are similar to MICA's.
