Chelsea Ragan was born in South Georgia, and says that her accent is a constant reminder of the simple pleasures and hard times of growing up in the South. She grew up wanting for "the greener grass on the other side of the 'Mason Dixon Line'", but she got there, she noticed the soil on the south side had more room for growth.

Along with Mount Royal alumnus Adam Void '12, Chelsea was a recipient of a LAB (Launch Artists in Baltimore) award. The prize will go toward Rebuilding Connections, a collaborative mural project along Howard Street that will link the College's Graduate Studio Center with The Baltimore Museum of Art. The plan proposes that six emerging MICA artists and six nationally-recongized street artists from Brooklyn's Mighty Tanaka gallery will collaboratively create six murals. The line of murals will transform formerly blank walls owned by auto shops, motels, rock clubs, and townhomes into publicly accessible works of art. The project aims to aesthetically enhance a corrridor going through social and economic development while connecting New York and Baltimore artists, opening the door for furhter artistic growth in the city.

A nominee for a 2013 Baker Artist Award, which recognizes Baltimore's emerging and established artists, Chelsea also received a 2012 Vermont Studio Center Fellowship at Vermont Studio Center in Johnston, VT. Before attending MICA, she was gallery director for Clayton Street Gallery in Athens, GA, and for Bookshelf and Gallery in Thomasville, GA., and her curatorial work includes Fail and Touchy Feely Gallery 500 in Baltimore. Chelsea's work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions in Georgia, Florida, and Maryland. She attended the University of Georgia, earning her BFA in Painting and Drawing in 2006.
