| 3 credits. Johnson. Offered summer. Study Group I occurs in the first summer residency. Students sre introduced to contemporary issues, unsolved problems, and questions begging research in the field of art education. Students also examine methods for conducting inquiry in the classroom. By the end of Study Group I, the group will have elected a focus for their inquiry and organized plan for conducting this inquiry during the teaching year. |

| 3 credits. Johnson. Offered fall. Investigation of the selected study questions begins in the fall semester and is conducted in the classroom setting at the student's teaching site. Students work with their faculty mentors as they implement the study, collect and analyze data, and form conclusions. |

In the fall semester, students begin a course of independent readings, papers, and on-line discussions with faculty mentors and colleagues related to the groups' selected research topic. Attendance at Mid-Winter Weekend Seminar is required to examine developments, refine questions, sharpen data collection and probe questions related to the selected research question. |

Students continue to work with their faculty members as they implement the study, collect and analyze data, and form conclusions. |

Independent inquiry continues in the spring semester, independent readings, papers, on-line discussions related to research topic continue with faculty mentors and study group colleagues. Attendance at a Mid-Weekend Seminar is required to refine questions and methodologies and develop a time-line for completion of study. |
