Pre-College Studio Residency Programs in Tuscany and Baltimore

MICA, the leader in Pre-College art and design education, offers two distinctly different summer programs for rising high school juniors and seniors.

The Baltimore Pre-College Studio Residency Program is entering its 16th year in 2009. This four-week program offers students an opportunity to immerse themselves in college-level studio classes while residing on MICA’s campus with other young artists and designers from around the country and around the world. Students participating in this program earn 3 credits while taking a core class and a workshop class. The rigorous curriculum allows students to choose among 11 core classes and 12 workshops in a variety of disciplines including figure painting, graphic design, sculpture, black and white photography, digital photography, 3D gaming and animation, illustration, fiber, architecture, and video. Students also take a Critical Methods of Studying Art class to round out the academic experience. Located in the heart of the East Coast art corridor, MICA Pre-College students enjoy field trips to Washington, D.C. and New York City where they explore contemporary art and notable masterpieces at galleries and museums. The dates for the Baltimore Pre-College Studio Residency are June 27-July 25, 2009.

The Pre-College Studio Residency Program in Tuscany offers a three week college-level experience in the tradition of MICA’s study abroad programs. This 2-credit experience focuses on DRAWING AND PAINTING THE TUSCAN LANDSCAPE in the Monte Amiata region of Italy. Students will learn about art in the birthplace of the Renaissance and enjoy field trips to Florence and other cultural venues to explore classical and contemporary art. Two separate sessions are offered: June 20-July 11, 2009 and July 11-August 1, 2009.
