"We may have all come on different ships, but we are in the same boat now."
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Over forty years ago, Dr. King charged us to live harmoniously as a nation. We wish to honor Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday by doing what he asked, gather the people to showcase the human spirit, lift up our collective voices and build the beloved community. This free poetry slam will be held on January 16, 2011, the eve of the King Holiday and national day of community service. Join us from 4:00-6:00pm, at MICA PLACE, 814 North Collington Ave, in Baltimore, MD.
The Same Boat Event aims to celebrate the artistic talents of a wide variety of community members. Performers of all skill levels and all ages are encouraged to participate for this open mic style event under the theme of social justice. Groups or individuals may express themselves though creative prose, song or dance. In addition to stage performances, an art exhibit will visually enhance the creative environment.
Those interested in performing should contact Anne Kotleba (MACA '11) at: 443-712-8025 or via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
This event is brought to you in collaboration between the Maryland Institute College of Art, the Community Arts Collaborative and members of the East Baltimore community, with help from the Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism.
