Found internship ...
through the Career Board. I had just finished an internship with Hearst and Seventeen Magazine so I was itching to get more magazine experience.
Draw:
I want to work for a magazine when I graduate and the more experience you have, the better.
Projects:
I assisted the art director with anything needed, which included designing advertorials that go in the magazine, finishing promotional materials, and photo research.
Revelations:
I picked up a lot of publication design skills while I was there as well as how the marketing side of a magazine is run. There is just as much graphic design that goes into promotion that is seen by a small group as much as what is actually published in the actual magazine. Everything is about extending the brand as much as possible.
Experience:
Between my internship at Seventeen and Ladies' Home Journal, I think I am fully prepared for an art assistant job at a publication after graduation. Doing this internship further solidified my job path and helped to inform part of my senior thesis. I was really lucky to have this opportunity.
