The Black Student Union's Rims On My Slaveship exhibition opens Thursday, Oct. 22 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Main Gallery of Main Building. The show continues through Saturday, Nov. 7.

Rims On My Slave Ship is an exhibition designed to evoke two types of thought. One can interpret it as a commentary on modern slavery in the African-American culture, which may consist of, but is not limited to: Hip-Hop, "bling" obsession, political portrayal, relevance/reliance on the "race card," stereotypes, etc.  It can also be interpreted as an African-American success story. Although the slave ship was viewed as a negative vehicle of oppression, its cargo was considered precious.
