As part of its sustainability efforts, the MICA Sewing Club is holding a schoolwide clothing swap in Cohen Plaza on Tuesday, Dec. 8, from noon to 4 p.m. The event is open to all MICA students, faculty and staff. Relevant items include clothing and accessories, including shoes, bags, scarves, hats and jewelry.
Participants are encouraged to drop off items from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Meyerhoff lobby on Thursday, Dec. 3 and Friday, Dec. 4, so that the Sewing Club can sort them before the main event.
Additional items may be brought to the actual event in Cohen Plaza, where they will be sorted by type and size. Please limit the amount of items donated to 10 per person. Clothing must be washed and in good condition.
MICA Sewing Club provides a place for students of all majors and levels of experience to learn and teach sewing techniques. Discussions and projects are based around the general topics of sustainability and recycled fashion, but members are encouraged to bring their own work to sew and socialize. Weekly meetings are on Mondays at 10:15 p.m. in Station 201. The Sewing Club will use unwanted items from the clothing swap as material to deconstruct, alter and teach sewing skills on.
