As MICA gears up for the start of a new academic year, the College will continue focusing on health and wellness through a new partnership with Chase Brexton Health Services. Chase Brexton, the three-time winner of the "Best Health Care Provider" award from City Paper, will provide comprehensive student health services on campus to both undergraduate and graduate students through Student Health Services.
"MICA is excited about this new venture with Chase Brexton Health Service," said Bryant Ford, Ph.D., associate dean for student health & wellness. "The College chose to develop a partnership with Chase Brexton Health Service because of its keen interest in working with college students and its long-standing history of and commitment to providing culturally competent health care to the citizens of Baltimore."
The change in medical providers was part of a total overhaul of MICA's initiatives for its Wellness Center, which was established last year. The center caters to artists by connecting three aspects of physical and mental health — Student Health Services, Student Counseling and MICA Fitness - under one roof.
Services being provided at Student Health Services, located inside the MICA Wellness Center at 1501 W. Mount Royal Ave., include:
1) Primary Care: immunizations/vaccinations, physicals, prescriptions, sick visits and urgent care (sprains, strains, burns, etc.)
2) Reproductive and Sexual Health Care: routine gynecological exams, STD testing and treatment, contraception education and counseling
3) On-Site Laboratory Services
4) After-Hours Services
5) Referrals: referrals to medical specialists and imaging services as appropriate.
Chase Brexton has provided health care services in Baltimore since 1978 and currently provides care to more than 24,000 individuals across four centers throughout Maryland. The company has a mission to provide prevention, treatment and wellness services in a culturally sensitive and skilled manner that promotes healthy lifestyles and respects diversity among MICA's students.
