International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States.

Inspired by the general goal of this nation-wide celebration, MICA has chosen the title Hear My World See My Voice as an overall theme for the various events that will be going on during this week. Some of the highlights are: Kick-off event on Sunday, Nov. 15 where three different groups will perform songs and dances in the Meyerhoff lounge. Then on Monday, Nov. 16, the student show in the private dining room will hold their reception. This show features works from a group of international students who are among us and will share their worlds through their artwork. On Saturday, Nov. 21, there will be a trip to Zeeba Lounge, where students will have the opportunity to enjoy many Mediterranean delicacies, including teas, desserts along with a belly-dancing show. The week will end with International Coffehouse, featuring a local belly-dancing group.

Intimidad, an independent documentary about Mexican immigrants, is an original Mexican love story about family relationships and the meaning of "home." Cecy and Camilo - ages 21 - recently moved to the border, Reynosa, Mexico, from Santa Maria, Puebla with a dream to save money, buy land and build a home. A year later they return to their rural hometown to reunite with their two year-old daughter Loida. What seems like a satisfying reunion turns into a confusing dilemma that transforms the course of their marriage. Both the family in the film - and the directors - documented Intimidad over the course of 5 years, lending the story to an incredibly intimate, dream-like impression. The movie mixes digital verite with Super 8 and 16mm film stock.
