Parking (on- & off-campus)

Some students find that bringing a car to campus is a useful and safe way to transport artwork and art supplies, visit museums, and get around town. However, parking spaces on and around campus are in great demand.

On-Campus Residents

Students with cars who live in Founders Green, Meyerhoff House, Mt. Royal Apartments, and Gateway must get a Founders Green parking permit for $200 per academic year. This parking permit allows residential students to park in the Founders Green Lot. Students with Founders Green Permits are not permitted to park on any other campus lot Monday through Saturday 8:00 am-4:30 pm. When you move out of college housing, your Founders Green parking permit automatically expires.

Off-Campus Residents

Most parking in Bolton Hill is restricted to a two-hour time limit, as posted, unless you have an Area 3 Resident Permit. Students who live off-campus in Bolton Hill, or students living in Sutton Place are eligible for an Area 3 Parking Permit. To obtain an Area 3 Resident Parking Permit, you must have a valid student ID, proof of residence (a lease, notarized letter from your landlord, utility bill, etc.), your driver's license, car registration, and tag number.

Please note: If you do not have your own motor vehicle insurance policy, and if the motor vehicle is not registered under your name, you will need a notarized letter from your parents (or whomever has insured the vehicle) with permission to have the car in Baltimore before the city will issue you a parking permit. (You may also have to go to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration to get an out-of-state registration permit if your car is not registered in Maryland.) For more information about Residential Parking Permits, contact the Baltimore City Office of Parking Permits, 443-573-2800.

Parking in the College lots requires a parking permit (available from Campus Safety). Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please display your parking permit on the lower driver side windshield. The purchase of a parking permit does not guarantee a parking space, but students who arrive early generally park without difficulty. Students must be in a campus building while parked on campus. With the exception of the Founders Green lot, overnight parking on campus is not permitted. These lots are not attended, so cars should be locked. Maryland Institute College of Art is not responsible for damage to vehicles kept on the lot or for the theft of valuables left in cars.
