Nick Clulow, a Baltimore City native, constructs his artwork from plaster, wood, jute, earthy pigments and other natural ingredients while considering the idea of artifact. These artworks are allegories of geologic time, biology, the tempering of natural resources, the haphazard development of culture and its diversification. In his work, Clulow investigates a set of perplexing oppositions found within human history-American vs. European, folksy vs. fancy, native vs. invasive and creative vs. destructive.
