Lauren Boilini, born and raised in Bloomington, Ind., has completed residencies at the Creative Alliance at the Patterson in Baltimore, the Can Serrat in El Bruc, Spain and the Jentel program in Wyoming. Boilini is currently taking part in a long-term residency at School 33 Art Center in Baltimore, and she teaches painting and drawing at MICA and the University of Maryland, College Park. In her current work, Boilini creates images pushed to the point at which excess becomes meaningless and falls into the realm of pattern. The large scale of Boilini's oil paintings and painting installations relates to the size of the human body and the potential for paintings to physically overwhelm the viewer. She received her M.F.A. at the Mount Royal School of Art at MICA and her B.F.A. in painting and art history at the Kansas City Art Institute.
