Student Voice Association

The Student Voice Association (SVA) is MICA's student advocacy group, with two councils to focus on both the student life & academic concerns of students. Each council meets monthly, and the topics vary from session to session depending upon student interest. Additionally, SVA typically hosts one town hall style forum with the College's leadership each semester.

SVA meetings are open to all current students to voice their opinions about issues at MICA. Additionally, MICA faculty and staff are welcome to attend SVA meetings but they should respect that this is a student forum and hence a venue for student thoughts and concerns. Individuals from outside of the MICA community may not attend unless specifically invited by SVA.

Please email and let us know what is on your mind. For SVA updates and information about upcoming events follow us on Facebook: MICA SVA

Let your voice be heard!

Town Hall Follow-up

Thank you for your participation at the Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, April 9th. The passion that was in the room was invigorating and very telling of student involvement on the MICA campus. A copy of the minutes can be found HERE.

Since Town Hall, SVA has worked with Doug Mann, MICA's Chief Financial Officer, to get information on the budget for the 2014-2015 academic year. As you requested, HERE are the charts of MICA's budget. We invite any follow-up questions that you have or suggestions so that we can gauge what is important to the student body. The budget for next academic year will be finalized and made available over the summer. SVA will continue to build a relationship with the Fiscal Affairs Office to ensure transparency moving forward. At the Town Hall, you all also requested information about cuts that are being made and how budgets are identified. Rest assured that we will work with President Hoi upon his arrival to convey these requests. The questions and suggestions we gather from you will be useful as we transition to a new President. For those of you who wrote down questions about sophomore housing, we have referred those comment cards to Residence Life so that you can receive more detailed answers.

As MICA brings in new leadership, we, as a student body, are in a unique position to be part of that transition and affect change on campus. Sammy Hoi has already expressed interest in working directly with students and looks forward to the conversations like the ones that are generated at Town Hall. We hope that you will stay engaged in the process and use SVA as a platform for comments and suggestions. Academic and Student Life have monthly meetings that are open to anyone.

Thank you again for your participation and please email if you have further questions
