Orientation for New & Transfer Students
Orientation includes a variety of informative and exciting programs. As a new student, you will meet other students and some of the faculty, learn your way around MICA and Baltimore, and prepare for the first day of classes. New students always find orientation to be very helpful - and a lot of fun! It will make your transition to college life much easier, so, whether you’ll be living on or off campus, you should plan to be at MICA for all of orientation. MICA’s comprehensive orientation program includes registration for classes, lots of food and entertainment, excursions into Baltimore, tours of local museums and attractions, and much, much more!
Halloween Party
Perhaps the most well-known MICA tradition is the Halloween Party, which attracts nearly 1,000 costumed party-goers annually. The Costume Contest Parade overshadows music and mayhem, where recent winners include a realistic replica of the Mount Royal Station Building on roller skates, and an oversized game of Tetris. This year's Halloween Party will take place on Saturday, October 29 at 8 pm.
Parent & Family Weekend
Parent & Family Weekend is a wonderful opportunity to bring families of students to MICA to learn more about the MICA experience. Families are welcome to take part in classes, meet faculty and staff, visit departments, learn about careers in the arts, see student artwork, and learn more about their student’s experience at MICA. The next Parent & Family Weekend takes place on February 10-13, 2012. Families will receive an informational mailing with full details about the event in late December/early January.
Showcase LIVE!
An evening of music, acting, comedy, poetry, dancing, and more! Students will showcase their performing talents to the MICA Community, Bolton Hill, and other Baltimore college students. Be on the lookout for this event in April 2012!
Coffeehouse Performing Arts Series
The Coffeehouse series is a monthly tradition at MICA, featuring live student performances of music, song, comedy, drama, and dance. The Coffeehouse performances fall on the last Sunday of each month and take place in the BBOX. Performers can sign up the week prior to the event at the Gateway, Meyerhoff, and Commons front desks.
Commencement
After years of hard work, graduation has finally arrived! Commencement for undergraduate, graduate, and post bac students will take place in May 2012. The Commencement Exhibition will take place campus-wide May 11 through May 14, 2012. Graduating seniors should be on the look out for a mid-February Senior Commencement Meeting. At that meeting, all seniors will be given valuable information about applications for graduation, the Senior exhibition, invitations and announcements, regalia, senior speaker applications, and much more.
