Student Mentors for the Mentoring Network

The Mentoring Network is a personal support program for new freshmen and transfer students. Student mentors - returning students who provide nurturing one-on-one attention and advice - serve as a big brother or big siste, providing information to help new students succeed at MICA. The relationships established between students help to empower and transform ideas and aspirations into realities. "Making a Difference" is the network's motto, and a variety of educational workshops and activities are planned throughout the year for participants.

Student Mentors are committed individuals work with new students, helping them achieve academic and personal success. Mentors must attend scheduled training sessions, develop a mentoring relationship, keep a monthly contact log, attend planned events for Network participants, and participate in assessment of program.

Mentors receive a $150 stipend per semester. The time commitment varies based upon four (4) personal contacts per month with Mentee along with the responsibilities described above.

Applications will be available in late February and interviews will be held in late March; hire in early April. For more information please contact the Office of Diversity and Intercultural Development.
