Seasoned student leaders will tell their stories of how they got involved and will answer panel questions from moderator Dr. Dusty Porter, Vice President of Student Affairs. Connect with upperclass students and ask questions about involvement opportunities you think you might be interested in.
MICA Leadership Retreat
Late January/Early February, All Day
The Leadership Retreat is a one-day leadership development opportunity for new/emerging student leaders, as well as students interested in getting involved. The goal of the retreat is to help students recognize, develop, and strengthen their leadership skills. It is also a great opportunity to network with other MICA students. The retreat will include workshops presented by staff and experienced student leaders as well as opportunities for participants to network and learn from one another. Topics to be addressed will include:Leadership and Art in Community Engagement,Learning about Personal Leadership Styles,Personal Action Planning, and more! Register online here.
April Welcome Activity
Mid April, Afternoon
Students who are selected to serve in Leadership Positions for the ‘09-‘10 academic year: Resident Advisors (RA), Orientation Leaders (OL), Program Managers (PM), Peer Career Advisors (PCA), CAP Interns, and Mentors, are invited to an afternoon of teambuilding at a nearby park.
Leadership Reception
Late April, Evening
Students are nominated by faculty, staff and fellow students to an evening of recognition and celebration for their accomplishments throughout the year. All nominees receive certificates and a copy of their nomination letter. Awards given include:
- Sidney Lake Award (2 seniors)
- Young Alumni Award for Student Leadership (1 senior)
- Leadership Honor Cord (all seniors)
- France Merrick Scholarship Awardees
- Emerging Leader Award
- Student Organization of the Year
- Program of the Year Awards
LeaderShape
Summer 2010, One Week
The LeaderShape Institute is a six-day, highly interactive leadership development experience where you'll be inspired to learn new skills, gain new knowledge and discover how to make exceptional improvements in an organization. You will be participating with approximately 60 college student leaders from all over the nation. In addition, you will leave the Institute with a "LeaderShape Project" - a well-conceived vision and plan of action you would like to implement at MICA to make a difference in an aspect of campus life that you feel passionate about.
