The offices of Residence Life and International Student Affairs are pleased to present a unique and innovative on campus living option for our students. The Meyerhoff International Living Experience (MILE) program at MICA will enhance the residential life experience for both domestic and international students and promote MICA's goal of "broadening our students' global perspective". By fostering cross-cultural learning opportunities and enriching international program offerings, the MILE community will celebrate MICA's growing diversity and recognize the rich cultures of our students.
Students who have participated in the MILE program have gained unique experiences and opportunities to be involved in the campus community by hosting programs, meeting with faculty and staff to offer guidance for future initiatives and have taken advantage of many cultural enriching opportunities both on and off campus. Examples of past events include a Jackie Chan vs. Jett Li film battle, Celtic Pumpkin Carving, an International Potluck, International Education , and off campus trips to the Many Moons Festival, The Ukrainian Festival, the DC Cherry Blossom Festival, the Peabody Symphony, Amish Country, and Hershey Park.
The MILE program is hosted on the third floor of the Meyerhoff House, rooms 301-310. The community is comprised of 23 students and one Residential Advisor. Students who are selected for the program will be guaranteed housing and will be afforded the opportunity to pull in one apartment mate or roommate who is also selected for the program. Both students should apply separately for consideration. Predetermined apartment mate or roommate is not a requirement. All assignments will be made carefully based off of the information provided in your housing application.
Students who participate in the MILE program will need to commit to the following:
- Each apartment must actively participate in the planning of 1 or more event(s) of their choosing sponsored by the MILE program each semester.
- Each student must attend a minimum of 3 programs per semester.
- Each student must actively participate in International Education Week.
To be considered for the program, please complete the housing application online in conjunction with completing the MILE application found at the front desk in the Commons, Meyerhoff and Gateway buildings. Our review committee will hand select the students we believe will gain the most from the experience as well as offer new perspectives to the program. We are looking for an even balance between domestic and international students. Having previous international experience is valued, but not necessary. The opportunity to help students who have not had the opportunity to travel abroad to experience different cultures but are eager to learn, are also considered. We encourage anyone that is willing to actively participate, take ownership of the community and be a good ambassador to the MILE program to apply.
Applications are due the Friday before spring break at 5pm. Please return completed applications to the MICA Residence Life Office in Commons 2-108. If you have any questions please contact Residential Coordinator Jess Bard at (410)225-5278.
