Statement of Confidentiality
All services provided to students are confidential. A confidential medical record is established and maintained for every student who receives care. The confidentiality of a student's medical records information is protected under the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Maryland state law and/or MICA Policy, as applicable.
If a student is 18 years or older, information cannot be released, even to parents, without the student's written permission unless permitted under FERPA. Releases of a student's confidential information permitted under FERPA include disclosures in response to a subpoena or in a health and safety emergency.
Hours
MICA Student Health Services follows the same schedule as the college, and will be closed whenever the college is closed. This includes the following dates during this school year: 12/22-25, 12/31, 1/1, 1/21, 5/27, and 7/4.
A visit to the campus health center will not excuse a student from class. It is the responsibility of the student to contact their professor directly regarding class absences. A note from the student health center can be given stating verification of visit if requested.

Cost of Visit
There is no charge for standard health visits for full-time enrolled students, which are covered by your student health fees; however, there are fees for lab work, immunizations, and procedures. For that reason, it is important to bring your insurance card with you to your appointment. You can also choose to pay out-of-pocket costs rather than use your insurance. Many services are offered to MICA students at a reduced fee when paying-out-of pocket. For more information on what laboratory fees, immunizations and procedures are covered by your insurance policy, please contact your insurance carrier directly.
Referrals and Specialty Care
Clinicians will refer students to medical specialists and imaging centers whenever necessary. Referred specialists will be determined primarily by the student's insurance coverage. Urgent referrals will be processed the same-day. All other referrals will be processed within three business days and held at the front desk of the MICA Student Health center for students to pick-up during clinic hours.
Emergency Care/After-hours Care
Students in need of emergency care should dial 911 for assistance. If a student has an urgent medical need that cannot wait until the next business day, he or she should call the student health center at 410-225-4118 for directions on how to contact the Chase Brexton after-hours provider. The student will be connected with an on-call Chase Brexton provider who will assist in identifying the appropriate level of medical attention required.
Pharmacy
The majority of prescriptions given at the MICA student health center can be electronically sent to a local pharmacy at the request of the student. Chase Brexton has a pharmacy located within our Mt. Vernon Center (1001 Cathedral Street), which is available to all MICA students.
STD Testing Package
In order to provide confidential and sensitive services to patients, Chase Brexton will offer a $50 STD screening package to students who desire testing without paying through their insurance carrier. Appropriate testing for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HIV, Hepatitis and HSV will be determined by the patient and the health care provider based on STD risk and practices.
Allergy Injections
Students may, if referred by their physician, have allergy injections by appointment if appropriate serum and instructions are provided. Allergy serum should be transported by the student in a cool pack to each appointment. Allergy serum cannot be stored at MICA Student Health Services. Prior to receiving the first allergy injection at MICA Student Health Services, each student must have a scheduled office visit with a provider and submit completed Allergy Injection Consent Forms.
