Carver High School Art Club

Run an after-school art club at MICA for high school students from Carver Vocational-Technical High School.

National Women's Prison Project/WHOLE

Work with trauma survivors served by this non-profit. NWPP

Sisters Together and Reaching (STAR)

Offer art lessons during the group sessions for HIV + African American women.  www.sistersteachingandreaching.org

Samaritan Community

Participate in a diversity of activities including helping with the food pantry, collecting toilet paper, making art at their Tuesday Morning Breakfast events, etc. www.samaritancommunity.org

Bolton Hill Nursery

John Eager Howard Recreation Center

Run an after-school art club for neighborhood children.

Opportunities Outside Bolton Hill

Tuerk House

Teach art or paint murals with adults in treatment for addiction. www.tuerkhouse.org

American Visionary Art Museum

Work with young students who attend after-school workshops. This internship starts mid-September and the hours are Wednesdays 1:30pm-6:30pm and/or Thursdays 1:30pm-6:30pm. This placement requires an on-site interview with AVAM.  www.avam.org

Nana Projects

Run workshops on lantern-making.  Site is accessible through the Collegetown Shuttle. www.nanaprojects.com

901 Arts

Run an after school art club for neighborhood children from approximately five to 13 years of age.  Monday afternoons. betterwaverly.org

Living Classrooms' Bugs Program

Work in an after-school program run by Living Classrooms at their East Harbor Campus (802 S. Caroline Street).  Day(s): 1-4 days a week, Monday- Thursday, Time slot: 2 or three hours from 3-6pm.

Mother Seton Academy

Run an after-school art club on Fridays from 3:30 -5:00 pm at the independent Catholic middle school (2215 Greenmount Avenue).  www.mothersetonacademy.org

Baltimore Clayworks

Assist teachers of community arts classes or help with administrative work.  Various sites. Their main location is accessible via light rail. www.baltimoreclayworks.org

Centerstage

Work with teens through the "Encounter" program on Monday afternoons.  www.centerstage.org 

Johns Hopkins Hospital

Work with patients in the pediatric oncology unit.  Tuesday afternoons. 

The Empowerment Academy

Assist the art teacher at this public school located at 851 Braddish Avenue, Baltimore 21216. 

Westside Elementary

Run an after school art club Mondays and/or Thursdays 3:15 - 4:15pm at this public school located at 2235 North Fulton Avenue 21217.   

Hampden Family Center

Help with an after school program with children in grades 1-7 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Activities will involve a clean-up and possible mural project. 1104 West 35th Street, Baltimore 21211. 

Hamilton Middle School

Partner with a CAC member as she works with middle school students on sculpture projects and the creation of a large-scale sculpture garden for a school. Location: Harford Road at Christopher Avenue, Baltimore MD 21214. This location is accessible by taking the #13 bus to Fells Point and then the #19 bus to Harford Rd. This is a 45 minute - 1 hour (or longer) commute.

The Intersection

Help train and mentor a high school student by training them to become community organizers as well as foster artistic and academic improvement and develop a sense of responsibility and self-respect the students by training them to assess and respond to the needs of their communities. Days/time: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 3:30-5:00 p.m.  Location: Hampden in Baltimore City. Transportation may be available.

East Baltimore Development Inc.

Work with AmeriCorps CAC member Robert Fitzgerald to run after-school programming related to art and gardening.  Days/time: Monday, Tuesday or Thursday after 12:00 p.m. Location: 1731 East Chase Street, Baltimore MD 21213.  Carpooling may be an option.

Sheppard Pratt Hospital

Work with art therapist Julia Andersen on Eating Disorders Awareness Week events and other programming. Site is in north Baltimore City. No transportation provided but site is accessible by an MTA bus that stops at Charles Street at North Avenue.

Project Plase

Offer art classes to the homeless adults served by Project Plase. Evening or afternoon time slot. Site is a 15-minute walk from MICA.  www.projectplase.org

Franciscan Center

Offer art classes to the homeless adults served by the center. Tuesday or Thursday mid-day slots are available. Site is a 15-minute walk from MICA. www.franciscancenterbaltimore.org

Maryland CHI/Penn North Neighborhood Center

A variety of options, including mural painting and teaching art, exist at the Penn North Neighborhood Center.  The center offers services for those in treatment for addiction.  The site is accesible by MTA bus #13.

F.L. Templeton Preparatory Academy

Offer afternoon art classes to a student body consisting of community members ranging in age from 5 years old to seniors .  Tuesday or Thursday, 2:30-5:30 p.m. Location: 1201 Pennsylvania Avenue, Baltimore MD 21202.  Travel expenses will be reimbursed by the site.
