The MA in Art Education is designed for experienced art educators who are ready to pursue their development as artists, teachers, reflective practitioners, and leaders in the field of art education. Students enroll in this program from many regions of the United States and abroad.

3. Master of Arts in Art Education Essay (unique requirement)NOTE: All applicants are asked to submit two copies of their statements/essays; one uploaded to Slide Room with the portfolio of artwork (see 6. Portfolio of Artwork) and one submitted in hard copy with the application form.In lieu of the Statement of Purpose/Artist Statement, submit an essay in which you: A. Describe your preparation and experience as an art teacher. Upload 10-20 images of your students' work with an attached description of the art problems and assignments used to generate the work. Identify any goals you have as an art teacher that you believe will be met through this program. B. Describe your preparation and experience in art. Upload 10-20 images of your own work and refer to them in your essay. C. Identify a question relating to student learning in art or in instructional practices in art education that you believe needs to be more carefully examined by art educators in today's schools. |

6. Master of Arts in Art Education Portfolio (unique requirement)Please review #3. Master of Arts in Art Education Essay prior to uploading your portfolio. Applicants should submit their portfolio materials for review online via mica.slideroom.com. The system allows applicants to create an inventory of pieces and attach the following information: title, date, medium, dimensions and notes. Applicants to the Master of Arts in Art Education: please indicate in the note field whether the piece is student artwork or personal artwork. Applicants may upload images (jpg), video (mov, wmv, flv) or .pdf documents. For good image quality and fast upload, images should be sized no larger than 1280 x 1280 px @ 72dpi. Video files must be kept under 20MB. Our Slideroom portal offers additional instructions for submitting work online. For applicants to multiple graduate programs, please repeat the upload process for each program. 8. Additional Requirements for International Applicants
A. Proof of English language proficiency. If your native language is not English you must demonstrate proof of English language proficiency to gain full admission. MICA requires a score result on The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) of at least 550 PBT (paper based test), or equivalent 213 CBT (computer-based test), or 80 IBT (internet based test). MICA also accepts a band score of at least 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). MICA's institution code is 5399. Note: International applicants who have received a four year degree from an English-language institution are not required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score. A transcript from the English-language institution will be accepted in lieu of a TOEFL or IELTS score. B. Certified translations of all documents. Diplomas, transcripts, financial statements, and letters of recommendation must be submitted with certified English translations. C. VISA Requirements and Procedures.
