Stafford Loan for New Graduate Students

Stafford Loan Information

You are ready to apply online for your Federal Stafford Unsubsidized Stafford Loan if you have signed and returned your award letter to MICA accepting the loan. You must also have a valid PIN in order to sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the loan. You were issued a PIN number at the time you processed your Free Application For Federal Aid (FAFSA). Use this same PIN number. If you need more information on obtaining a PIN, please refer to http://www.pin.ed.gov.

The amount of any Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan listed on your Award Letter is the maximum amount you are eligible to borrow. You may borrow any amount up to this maximum. If you choose to borrow less than the amount on your Award Letter, please put a line through the maximum amount and write the amount you wish to borrow. Please initial after the amount you wish to borrow.

The following steps are required when applying for a Federal Stafford Unsubsidized Loan:

1. First, go to the federal government's Direct Lending website and sign in:
https://studentloans.gov

2. Next, complete Entrance Counseling, located on the left sidebar under Counseling.

3. Finally, complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN), also located on the left sidebar.

You have the right to cancel or reduce the amount of your awarded loan by contacting the Financial Aid Office.
