Admission Requirements

BUSINESS OF ART AND DESIGN (ONLINE MPS)

The Master in Professional Studies (MPS) in the Business of Art and Design provides a comprehensive, highly concentrated education in business management specifically for artists, designers, and related professions. Through a combination of online instruction and brief residencies at MICA, students gain a grounding in the key functional areas of business management, including accounting, finance, marketing, and more.

Who Should Apply

The program is designed to support both recent graduates as well as students who have been out of school for several years who are seeking the skills needed to start, sustain, and/or grow an arts-related business. The program is designed primarily for visual artists, design professionals, architects, illustrators, musicians, actors, writers, crafts persons, performing artists, and supporters of the arts; but it is open to all students who feel that this training and our program structure will benefit them.

Application Requirements for Applicants to the Business of Art and Design (Online MPS)

Priorty Deadline for May 2013 Entrance: January 15, 2013

Applications received after January 15 will be considered until April 1, provided space remains available.

3. Written Requirement

All applicants are asked to upload a written document addressing two specific questions. Please divide your essay in the two sections, clearly marked, addressing the following:

1. Statement of Interest: Describe, in 250 words or less, the nature and type of creative/alternative business you have an interest in and why you are interested.

2. Statement of Intent: Describe, in 250 words or less, your goals, aspirations and objectives for studying in this program as it relates to your creative/alternative business interest.

4. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation

Letters of recommendation should be submitted online via SlideRoom.

5. Proof of Degree or Equivalent 

Send transcripts for ALL post-secondary schools attended in sealed, institution issued.

6. Portfolio of Artwork (optional requirement for MPS applicants)

Applicants to the Business of Art and Design (Online MPS) may submit 5-10 examples of art, design, writing, music, video or other materials via mica.slideroom.com. Portfolio pieces may also consist of examples of work produced, managed or curated by the applicant. A portfolio of artwork is not required for admission to the Business of Art and Design (Online MPS).

Portfolio materials are submitted online via SlideRoom with the application form. Additional details and technical information is available there.

7. $70 Application Fee

Payable online during the final submission stage.

8. Additional Requirements for International Applicants

A. Proof of English language proficiency.

If your native language is not English you must demonstrate proof of English language proficiency to gain full admission. MICA requires a score result on The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) of at least 550 PBT (paper based test), or equivalent 213 CBT (computer-based test), or 80 IBT (Internet based test). MICA also accepts a band score of at least 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). MICA's institution code is 5399. Note: International applicants who have received a 2, 3 or 4-year degree or diploma from an English-language institution are not required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score. A transcript from the English-language institution will be accepted in lieu of a TOEFL or IELTS score.

B. Certified translations of all documents.

Diplomas, transcripts, financial statements, and letters of recommendation must be submitted with certified English translations.

Additional Requirements for Finalists

Candidates selected as finalists by the Graduate Review Jury will be required to complete a writing proficiency test in lieu of an admission interivew. The test will be conducted online. Additional details will be shared with finalists at the time of their selection. Reviews will begin in December, and finalists will be notified throughout the conclusion of the process in March.
