Admission Procedures & Deadlines for All Applicants

General Application Procedures

Please note that each graduate program has unique application requirements and guidelines. Click on your program of interest on the left sidebar to review program-specific guidelines. Application, writing and portfolio materials are submitted through mica.slideroom.com. Many prospective graduate students choose to apply to more than one graduate program. Applicants to multiple programs should complete and submit online applications for each program by which they wish to be considered.

A complete application includes the following materials:

1. Graduate Admission Application Form

Submitted online via mica.slideroom.com.

2. Curriculum vitae/résumé.

3. Written statement(s).

A written statement or writing sample is required for application to graduate or post-baccalaureate study. Applicants should view program-specific requirements on the left sidebar or in SlideRoom, as writing requirements vary between programs.

4. Three (3) letters/reference.

Recommendations are collected online via mica.slideroom.com

5. Proof of degree or equivalent.

Applicants must submit transcripts from ALL post-secondary schools attended. Transcripts should be sent in sealed envelopes directly to the Office of Graduate Admission. Applicants to multiple programs need only send one copy of each original transcript. Send to: Office of Graduate Admission // 1300 Mount Royal Avenue // Baltimore, MD 21217

6. Application fee.

An application fee is assessed during the submission phase of the online application, payable by credit card. Applicants to multiple programs: the application fee is charged on the first application. All subsequent applications are charged a $10 processing fee.

7. Additional Requirements for International Applicants

International applicants are required to submit the following materials in hardcopy to the Office of Graduate Admission:

1. Proof of English Language Proficiency

If your native language is not English you must demonstrate proof of English language proficiency to gain full admission. MICA recognizes the TOEFL and IELTS tests as demonstration of English proficiency. For MICA graduate degree and certificate programs, applicants must submit an official TOEFL test score of 80 (IBT) or higher; or an IELTS band score of 6.0 or higher. Please note that applicants to the Design Leadership (MBA/MA) program must receive a 100 (IBT) or higher on the TOEFL or 7.0 or higher on the IELTS. Official test scores must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Admission by the application deadline to be processed. MICA's institution code is 5399. MICA's graduate programs are not able to consider students for conditional admission in the absence of a passing TOEFL/IELTS score. Language testing is only waived if a student has earned a 2, 3 or 4-year degree or diploma from an English-language institution, in which case the institution's transcript will serve as demonstration of proficiency. Please note that all international finalists particpate in required admission interviews.

2. Certified Translations of All Documents

Diplomas and transcripts must be sent with certified translations if the instiution does not provide English-language originals.

International applicants do not need to send any additional information or financial documentation at the time of application. Upon admission, international candidates will be asked to complete additional steps in preparation for the I-20 document.

Please note that the Office of Graduate Admission cannot accept, review or be responsible for hardcopies or original copies of portfolio materials, or any other supporting documentation. Please do not submit supplemental or original portfolio materials, as they will not be considered or returned.
