Personally Owned Computers

Policy Regarding Support for Personally Owned Computers

Technicians working in MICA Technology Systems and Services are not responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, or updating computers or other technology items that are the personal possessions of faculty, staff, or students. They are not allowed to load MICA-owned software onto the personal computers of faculty, staff, or students.

Faculty participating in the Faculty Laptop Initiative, once their computers are turned over to them, have full responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of those computers. This includes upgrading of operating systems, adding or deleting software, and any other hardware or software related support function. TSS will coordinate training and instructional support as outlined in the correspondence related to the program but will not be able to do maintenance or add hardware or software once the computers are turned over to the faculty.

As of Fall 2009, MICA has developed a policy and procedure to make certain software used in the MICA academic programs availabale to faculty free of charge to load on their personal computers.. Click here for more information on that program.
