Managing Your Email

Using Outlook

For users who need to keep some email on the exchange server, this document will show you how to create a storage area on your local computer using Microsoft Outlook.  This will allow users to quickly move email from the server to the local hard drive so that they can remain within the email quota limit (email messages you store on your local machine do not count against your storage quotas).  By using this local storage folder, users can keep current and relevant messages on the server and download older or less important items to their local machine.

More Options for Managing Mail

Whether you primarily check your mail using Exchange Web Access or using client software like Outlook, there are filtering options that may help you reduce the amount of junk mail you receive in your inbox.

Spam & Junk Email

The school uses a SPAM firewall to protect its email server from being overwhelmed by spam and other unwanted emails. The firewall quarantines all suspected spam sent to MICA email addresses. The system sends a daily quarentine report to MICA email addresses.

Users should review these email reports to make sure no legitimate mail has been quarantined.  Read through the list of blocked emails carefully to ensure legitimate emails are released back to the good email pool. Quarantined messages are stored for a period of 14 days before being discarded. If a user believes a particular email is spam but the SPAM firewall did not block it, they should forward this email to: spam@mailfoundry.com.
