Graduate On-Campus Employment

MICA offers a wide variety of on-campus employment opportunities. Depending on student skills and interest, a graduate student can find work as a Graduate Program Assistant, Sound or Technician in the Graduate Research Lab or through a myriad of jobs in MICA's Operations.

On-Campus Employment Opportunities

Graduate Program Assistant (GPA)

A graduate student in the role of a Program Assistant works closely with his or her director in assuring an open line of communication between students and the director. They assist Program Directors in the daily operations of the program. GPA's assist in orientation of first year graduate students at the beginning of the year as well as distributing vital information regarding commencement.
- There may only be two Program Assistants per program.
- They act as a liaison between the Graduate Studies office and their assigned program and aid in the distribution of information.
- They will coordinate logistics for all incoming visiting artists and critics, ensuring that transportation and housing needs are fulfilled, as well as all appropriate scheduling and information is available to the Graduate Studies Office.
- GPA's receive a stipend per semester of assistantship.

GRADUATE LABORATORY ASSISTANTS

Sound Expert

Assists students with the production of high quality sound. They should have a strong understanding of the use of sound equipment; sound editing software and the ability to impart this information to students. The sound expert works with students either during open hours or by appointment. They also help maintain the labs sound facility and suggest equipment needs.

- Technicians receive a stipend per semester of employment.

Video Expert

Assists students with the production of high quality video. They should have a strong understanding of the use of video equipment, video editing software and the ability to impart this information to students. The video expert works with students either during open hours or by appointment. They also help maintain the labs sound facility and suggest equipment needs.

Printing technicians assist graduate students in prints with labs professional printers. The technicians have regular hours during each week of the semester where students can sign up to work with them in creating high quality prints. The printing technicians is expected to have an understanding of color theory and management, an intermediate to expert level understanding of Photoshop and most importantly show an attention to detail and an ability to help students problem solve issues with their prints and digital files. They are also responsible for helping the coordinator maintain printing supplies and bring attention to issues with the printers.

Checkout/Equipment Technicians
Contact: Kelly Egan, Graduate Lab Coordinator
Assist graduate students in checking out the labs video, audio and multimedia equipment. The technicians have regular hours during each week of the semester when they are available to checkout equipment. Part of their job as technicians is to familiarize themselves with the equipment available, insure that returned equipment is intact and functioning properly. Technicians should also be able to instruct students in basic use of the equipment and suggest alternate equipment if necessary or preferable. They are also responsible for helping the coordinator in maintaining inventory.
- Aid students in proper equipment use and techniques.

Studio Monitor

Health & Safety Appointee

Contact: Denelle Bowser, Environmental Health & Safety Manager

A graduate student in the role of a Studio Monitor works very closely with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager to identify health and safety hazards and monitor these guidelines in the independent studio spaces. Required training for this position includes: Handbook orientation, Campus Familiarity tour and Anti-Harassment. The studio monitor will at times be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Studio Monitors must be available to work at least 10 hours per week.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is highly recommended.
- Studio Monitors receive a stipend per semester.
