Faculty Emeritus – Ceramics

RON LANG served as chair of the MICA ceramics department from 1979 until 2008. He earned his bachelor's degree from West Chester State College and his MFA from Pennsylvania State University and has been represented in group and solo exhibitions in the U.S., Scotland and Japan. He has received grants from the Mellon and Ford foundations, and has been artist in residence and visiting lecturer at numerous institutions including the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland and the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland. He is active in the local, national, and international bonsai scene, and served on the planning board for the 5th World Bonsai Convention as well as the curator for the ceramic exhibitions. He developed the experimental exhibitions Bonsai in Sites that brought together contemporary ceramic artists and bonsai practitioners for collaborative works exhibited at Baltimore Clayworks and The National Bonsai and Penjing Museum in Washington, DC. Group shows include "Icons and Archetypes," Frostburg, MD; "Haldane Connections," Glasgow, Scotland; "Sculpture 1988," Washington, DC. Solo exhibitions include Foxhall Gallery, Washington, DC; Clay Studio, Philadelphia. Collections include Kohler Arts Center, Penn State; University of Utah. Awards include Mellon and Ford Foundation Grants. Artist-in-Residence, Glasgow School of Art, Scotland, 1987, 1989.
