Karen Lemmert

Adjunct Faculty – Environmental Design

Karen Lemmert earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree with honors from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and she received her Master of Architecture degree with a painting concentration from Cranbrook Art Academy in 2000. Under Artist-in-Residence, Peter Lynch, she participated in Sao Paulo’s Architectural Biennial. Her work as a project architect includes the Visionary Art Museum Artist Think Tank and Whole House Environs, the H.H. Richardson Warder-Totten House Restoration, the Baltimore Friend’s School Alumni Hall and MTV’s Detroit offices. She has also exhibited work at Maryland Art Place, the New Museum in Detroit, and the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Virginia. She has been a guest critic/ lecturer at RISD and Stevenson College and ‘Critic in Residence’ as part of the ‘Chthonic Cartographer’ exhibit in Baltimore. Karen is a licensed architect and principal of Manifold Design, established with David Naill in Baltimore in 2002. The practice fosters growth within the existing city and has embraced the challenge of incorporating new investigations into historic buildings and landscapes as a means of sustaining cultural relationships and propagating energy. Currently, Karen teaches a third year design studio and a Furniture design studio in the Environmental Design Program at MICA.
