Faculty – Art History, Theory & Criticism

Dr. Jane Elkinton grew up the daughter of American diplomats overseas: in Paris, France; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Tokyo, Japan; and Karachi, Pakistan. That experience gave her a high regard for the world's varied traditions, religions, lanuages, terrain, and, of course, cuisine. Dr. Elkinton returned to the United States to attend college: BA in Anthropology from the University of Hawaii; MA in Asian Art History from the University of Michigan; PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Her special area of interest is Japanese culture, with a focus on the Way of Tea. Dr. Elkinton is dedicated to interlocking the study of culture, art and music.
