Erin Pauwels

Erin Pauwels received her BA in art history from Carleton College, and her MA in Humanities and Social Thought from the John W. Draper Interdisciplinary Masters Program at New York University. Currently, she is completing her PhD in art history and American Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington, and is in residence at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC where she was the 2011-12 recipient of the Wyeth Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship in American Art. Her dissertation project, "Sarony's Living Pictures: Performance, Photography, & Gilded Age American Art," considers the influence of performance, masquerade, and dramatic practice on the visual arts in the late nineteenth-century United States.
