Faculty – Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
Elvira R. Causey was born, raised, and educated in Baltimore County. Upon the recommendation of a high school art teacher, Elvira attended Maryland Institute College of Art. In 1963, Elvira received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from MICA. That same year Elvira was also recognized by the MICA Faculty and awarded a bronze metal in appreciation for her work promoting school activities.
While at MICA, Elvira developed an interest in teaching and in 1973 Elvira would receive her second degree from MICA, a Masters in Art Education. This degree would prove invaluable as a teacher in Baltimore County.
As a Baltimore County middle School art teacher/department chairperson Elvira showed a deep concern for maintaining quality art programs for children in the public school system. She provided a high degree of leadership in the growth of art education and curriculum development at the local, county, and state levels. In addition to her own successful teaching, she mentored several students from Maryland Institute College of Art as a Cooperating Teacher.
After over 40 years of service to the Baltimore County school system Elvira retired and joined MICA's faculty, where she continues to mentor students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching program.
