Ellen Cutler completed requirements for her Ph.D. (A.B.D.) at the University of Delaware, received her M.A. from Boston University and B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She has been an adjunct professor of Art History, Theory and Criticism at MICA since 2002 where she teaches Modernism most semesters. She has also taught Art Matters, Renaissance-1855, 19th century European Art, 19th century American Art, and various seminars in early 20th century modernism.
For many years Ellen was an art museum educator (at the Springfield (MA) Quadrangle Museums, Des Moines (IA) Art Center and Currier Museum of Art) and this background informs her work in the classroom. She is a staff writer for Sculpture Review magazine and has also done freelance writing for a variety of organizations including the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
