Christine Neill

For thirty years, Christine Neill has had numerous solo shows on the East Coast of the United States and recently in France. She frequently participates in national and international, group and juried shows. The honors she has received include a Maryland State Arts Council Fellowship and the Mellon Arts Grant; galleries in Baltimore and Massachusetts represent her and the work is included in many private and public collections.

Neill initially studied biology at Skidmore College, in New York State, ultimately graduating with a BS degree in Art and earning an MFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. It was a natural transition for her from the examination of biological process to metaphorically visualizing those processes as imagery in paintings and prints. She dates her interest in environmental conservation to those early studies.

Neill spends summers in New England, where she paints daily in a converted barn studio. The garden behind her Baltimore City home shares characteristics without duplicating those of the land in the country. She finds the two activities, painting and planting, support each other and influence her interpretation of art and nature.

Neill is a Professor in the Painting & Foundation Departments and Coordinator for Professional Development at Maryland Institute College of Art.
