Christine Neill

Christine Neill

Neill is a Professor of Painting Department at MICA and also teaches courses in Foundation and GFA. She grew up in New England, and after initially studied biology at Skidmore College, graduated with a BS in Art. She received an MFA from the Hoffberger School of Painting at MICA, where she studied with Grace Hartigan, She has exhibited widely in the United States, as well as France and Japan. The honors she has received include a Maryland State Arts Council Fellowship and the Mellon Arts Grant. Her work is included in many private and public collections and is represented in Baltimore by Goya Contemporary.

Nature has long been the subject of Neill's large mixed-media paintings and prints. Her works combine archival ink jet prints with the hands-on techniques of watercolor painting. The imagery explores moments where plant life intersects the human world by employing natural forms as the embodiment of myth and metaphor. Anthropomorphic, atmospheric and emotional elements meet with the analytical for overall psychological and visual effect.

Neill divides her time between Baltimore and New Hampshire.
