Born in Medellin, Colombia, Zapata attended high school in Shoreham, NY before coming to Goucher. In 2002, Zapata launched his own Baltimore-based business consultancy, Smartank Group, LLC.
Since graduating from Goucher in 1998 with a double major in communications and sociology, Andres Zapata has explored a career path that fuses his skills in both subjects with the advanced technology that today's businesses need to succeed.
With the added experience of an M.A. in communication design from the University of Baltimore, and a position as a solutions designer at Carton Donofrio Partners, Zapata launched his own Baltimore-based business consultancy, Smartank Group, LLC, in 2002. A few years later, Smartank merged with idfive, a similar consultancy with an impressive client list, including NASA, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and Johns Hopkins Medicine.
As a partner and senior IA/ID/UX strategist at idfive, Zapata specializes in requirement gathering & documentation, information architecture, usability design, workflow & data design, research, analysis, communication, public speaking, problem solving, critical thinking, client relations, and account management.
Zapata also recently earned his M.B.A. in integrated marketing from the Johns Hopkins University. In addition to the demands of his position at idfive, Zapata teaches User Interface and Experience Design and Interactive Media at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
