Undergraduate Admission Procedures

Freshmen
85% of new students entering MICA each year are freshmen. These students come to the College from all parts of the world. Approximately 80% of new freshmen each year are from out-of-state applications. They represent more than 46 states and territories and 57 foreign countries. Nearly 100% of incoming freshmen are traditional college age and attend MICA full-time.
Transfer Students
Each fall, approximately 15 percent of the College's new enrollment is composed of students transferring from four-year colleges and universities and two-year community colleges. More than half of these students transfer to MICA from out of state. Each transfer student brings to the College a different level of artistic capability and academic achievement based on a variety of post-secondary educational experiences. Some students transfer to the College as freshmen, others as sophomores and juniors. A limited number of spaces are available each year within each department, and admission is competitive.
International Students
Students from outside the United States are warmly received into the MICA community. Currently representing 7% of our student body, students from 51 foreign countries are members of the College community who offer a unique social, political, and cultural perspective on art making and critical theory that enriches the quality of our student body. We value the contribution international students bring to the College, and in return, MICA offers an exceptional education in the visual arts.
Special Circumstance Students
Each year a number of students enter MICA outside the regular route of freshmen or transfer students. For example, students attending other colleges or universities may want to attend MICA for a semester or a year as non-matriculating students. Some high school juniors may seek early admission. And students with undergraduate degrees may wish to pursue a second bachelor's degree at MICA.
